General Requirements

• “Active duty U.S. military sponsor” is defined as active duty Regular Army, an Army Reservist who is activated at the time of application for scholarship, or a National Guardsman who is activated at the time of application for scholarship.
• Active duty service members are not eligible.
• All applicants must verify via Sheer ID during the application process.
• All applicants may apply for either an academic or vocational scholarship only.
• The applicant must be enrolled, accepted, or expect to be accepted by a regionally accredited college, university, qualifying trade or technical school, located in the United States or its territories, for the upcoming fall or spring semester and be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree or qualifying certification, as applicable. If currently enrolled, applicant must maintain the school’s continuation GPA.
• Spouses who have previously received a FHSF scholarship are not eligible to apply; however, those who have previously applied but not received a scholarship are eligible to apply again.

Spouse Applicant Eligilibity

• Must be a high school graduate or hold a valid high school equivalent.
• The applicant must be enrolled, accepted, or expect to be accepted by a regionally accredited college, university, qualifying trade or technical school, located in the United States or its territories, for the upcoming fall or spring semester and be pursuing an undergraduate degree or qualifying certification, as applicable. If currently enrolled, applicant must maintain the school’s continuation GPA.
• Must not be the recipient of a full-tuition scholarship (to include tuition, room and board) or an appointment to a military service academy.
• Must not be an active duty service member.
• Must be one of the following:
  • The dependent spouse of an active duty U.S. military sponsor assigned to Fort Hood.
  • The dependent spouse of an active duty U.S. military sponsor whose last duty assignment was Fort Hood and applicant resides in Bell, Coryell, Lampasas, McLennan, Travis or Williamson County while sponsor is on a non-command sponsored assignment on orders.
  • The dependent spouse of an honorably discharged veteran of active duty U.S. military sponsor and both sponsor and applicant reside in Bell, Coryell, Lampasas, McLennan, Travis or Williamson County.
  • The dependent spouse of a deceased member of the U.S. military forces and applicant resides in Bell, Coryell, Lampasas, McLennan, Travis or Williamson County.
• Must submit a completed application file by the deadline date. If mailed, application must be postmarked by the deadline date. Incomplete and/or late applications will not be considered.

Individuals who have previously received a FHSF Scholarship are ineligible to apply; however, those applicants who have previously applied for a scholarship but did not receive one are eligible to re-apply.

Application Essay

An original essay authored solely by the applicant, in 500-750 words, typed and double-spaced, that directly addresses the topic. Include the applicant’s last 4 numbers of his/her social security number on the top right corner of each page.

PRIVACY ACT STATEMENT AND CONSENT

1. Authority: Title 5, United States Code (USC) 552A.
2. Principle Purpose: To obtain information from FHSF scholarship applicants.
3. Routine Uses: To be used as the basis for evaluating applicants for FCFSF scholarship awards.
4. The submission of information requested in this packet is necessary in order to provide the basis for evaluation. Failure to provide all requested information, including a signed/dated Privacy Act Statement, will result in the applicant’s submission being ineligible for consideration.
5. I certify that the information furnished in this application is true and complete to the best of my knowledge, and that the student essay was written only by me.
6. I approve the release of all application information contained in this packet to the FHSF Board and to the Scholarship Selection Committee.
7. I consent, in the event I am awarded a scholarship, to FHSF’s use of my name, photo and scholarship information for their promotions.
8. I agree that, if I am awarded a full-tuition scholarship to include room and board, or an appointment to a US Service Academy, I will not accept a scholarship award from the FHSF.
